Heya, friends - just a note to let you all know we're starting on the community garden at the Community Centre in District-X this weekend. Luckily, we've got the basics all sorted from last year, but it'll be a lot of toil and tilling before the planting. Possibly, we're a tad late on everything, but we thought it'd be best to wait as long as possible so the children and others in the community could be more involved.

If anyone wants to help out, drop me a message here and I'll be sure to pass your information along to those in charge of organising everything. Funds have been provided, so it's mostly heavy labour for the time being, then choosing what to plant and where and helping people to do that.

Also, I know it's April, but don't forget your sunscreen. A good zinc lotion's best at keeping burns away.

Oh, and also also, if you've any requests for dishes to be put in the rotation over the summer - or for some experimentation - let Darcy or myself know. And yes, salads are going to be making a return. Or well, we've decided to try a salad bar of sorts to go along with lighter soups and things. We'll be trying it out for the first time tomorrow evening in the main kitchen, if you'd like to come try it out.

As a proud son and grandson of farmers, I'd love to help out if you need me to. Clearly I'm not concerned about heavy labor. :)

I was hoping you'd volunteer! The kids at the Centre always enjoy it when you come by to help... probably has something to do with you letting them use you like a jungle gym.

Doesn't bother me any and I'm always careful around what we used to call "crunchies".

... I am not nearly as funny as I think I am in English.

Point being - I can work and entertain littles if that is what is needed of me.

I can help with the labor and lifting part too, and with the end of season stuff later in the year when the beds are being turned over for the winter. Just don't ask me for much in the middle part, I'm a plant killer.

There's also a few open plant beds up for grabs, if you want to be a plant parent for the season! A pepper papa? A mango mamma?

Terry! I am a facilitator. I am making dreams come true... for those who have dreamed of being in charge of nurturing a specific bed of lettuce in an assigned planter area.

We don't talk about the mint-ident last year.

I think maybe keeping the mint in its own, rather large pot might be a good idea. Those poor tomatoes never stood a chance.

Maybe the mint can go in a pot... inside. Mostly inside. Lots of space between them and everything they'll invade given a few cm of good soil and a sunny day.

I would be happy to assist. Gardening is not my strong suit, but I am happy to help the community in District X.

So, am I already volunteered for this as your girl Friday or do I need to put my hand up?
